Justin Timberlake’s “Take Back the Night” is the Song Stuck in Our Heads

JT-472x472The power of Justin Timberlake’s talent elevated his latest release, The 20/20 Experience, from a soulful R&B album with an infectious groove to a major pop event. It turns out the second part of his musical journey, The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2, won’t be out until September 30, but we already have the first single.

“Take Back the Night” gets into the groove and stays there. Between the slick lead vocals from Timberlake and the hook heavy bass line  – this single is bound to be another hit in JT’s arsenal.

Check out “Take Back the Night”  here and listen on demand – it’s the Song Stuck In My Head on Slacker.

“Royals” is the Song Stuck in Our Heads

LORDE-472x472The 16-year-old singer/songwriter, Ella Yelich-O’Connor, a.k.a. Lorde, is already a big deal in her home country of New Zealand.

Lorde was discovered by Universal when she was only 12 after a  performance at school talent show. 10 Remixed Pop Songs in Heavy Rotation Right Now

Screen Shot 2013-05-21 at 3.10.59 PMHellllllloooo pop music fans! Live from the city of San Francisco where EDM lives and breathes. I’m Ms. Jackson…music head, DJ and pop music monster. I wanted to pull together a few of the hottest House, Electro, Hip-Hop and Pop remixes from the best DJ / Producers right now.

From the king of the remix, Diddy putting his magic touch on “Scream And Shout” to powerhouse producers and DJs, Sick Individuals, adding hard hitting electro sounds to Icona Pop’s dance anthem – the talent in remixing is alive and well.

Enjoy all these songs on Slacker’s Pop Remix station and let us know which ones are your favorites!

Bruno MarsBruno Mars “Locked Out Of Heaven (Sultan And Ned Shepard Remix)”
Yeah we have been singing along to this tune since it came out but this remix will make your heart buckle from all the bass. “Ah yeah yeah, ah yeah yeah yeah yeah…”

Rihanna “Diamonds (Dave Aude 100 Edit)”
Shining bright like a diamond with some beats added from the king of dance and house remixes.

Emeli Sandé “Next To Me (Kendrick Lamar Remix)”
The hip-hop heavyweight Kendrick Lamar adds his lyrical force to Britain’s rising pop star debut single.

Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera “Feel This Moment (Riddler & Reid Stefan Radio Mix)”
In straight 1980s synth style using A-Ha’s “Take On Me” sample, Riddler and Reid Stefan keep the fist pumping effect with a powerful electro house remix.

Calvin HarrisCalvin Harris featuring Florence Welch “Sweet Nothing (Diplo & Grandtheft Remix)”
Diplo and Grandtheft join forces to this already killer collaboration with trap style snares and synths.

Krewella “Alive (Cash Cash & Kalkutta Remix)”
Crank this one up and say Y.O.L.O.

Will.I.Am ft. Britney Spears Diddy Hit Boy Lil Wayne and Waka Flocka “Scream and Shout (Remix)”
Diddy calls this the “Super Black Man Remix”….OKAY (in my Lil’ Jon voice)?!?!

Icona Pop “I Love It (Sick Individuals Remix)”
I don’t think there could be a mix to top this pop dance anthem but (no pun intended) this is SICK.

David Guetta featuring Ne-Yo and Akon “Play Hard (R3hab Remix)”
Maybe Mr. Guetta didn’t mean to straight pull the hook from Alice Deejay’s “Better Off Alone” but dang R3hab (that’s the number 3 instead of an ‘e’ for all that don’t know) kills it as always with this electro banger.

Ellie GouldingEllie Goulding “Anything Could Happen (Alex Metric Remix)”
Her voice is undeniable as is her blonde, half shaved head…I wish I had the balls to do that btw. Fellow Brit, Alex Metric created this lush and pulsating song and made it into an electro dance jem.

Artist of the Week Demi Lovato Grows Up

At only 20 years old, she has made a remarkably candid, emotional, and mature album—led by the single Heart Attack. It’s also been announced that she will stay on as a judge for the next season of “X-Factor”

On this station you’ll hear tracks from the new album as well as the songs and artists that influenced and inspired her. Demi Lovato is Slacker’s Artist Of The Week.

Slacker’s Attack of the Boy Bands Trivia

Attack of the Boy Bands Slacker’s Attack of the Boy Bands, a new station that simultaneously celebrates the new album from Justin Timberlake and the 15th anniversary of NSYNC’s debut album, takes listeners on a journey from the 90s explosion in popularity to the new generation of pop groups and even through the nostalgic reunions of our childhood faves.

During this exploration into the music that has sparked so many dance moves and pop hooks, a quick  brush up of some facts and tidbits are in order. In fact, there are many reasons you may want to brush up on your Boy Band trivia:

1) For that one day our favorite bubble yum genre gets a dedicated category on Jeopardy.

2) To sound cool to your nieces, nephews, kids, and any of your co-workers who have more dance skills in their pinky than you did even after that summer stint in musical theatre camp.

3) To acknowledge that you are a fan – indie street cred be damned. Admit it – you secretly get down to NKOTB, BSB and JT.

Here are some cool facts about our favorite Boy Bands you may not know:

In the UK, Take That is like the Beatles of the 21st Century

When Take That reunited in 2010, which included the return of Robbie Williams as icing on the cake, they released the band’s sixth studio album, Progress, which became the fastest selling album of the 21st century and the second fastest in British history. The tour that followed set the new record for the fastest selling tour of all time in the UK. In 2012 Forbes announced Take That as the 5th highest-earning music stars in the world, Amazon (UK) revealed they were their top selling music artist of all time and the Official Charts Company announced the biggest selling singles artists in British history with Take That placing 15th overall – the highest boy band in UK chart history. That is a lot history making and recording breaking for the vocal pop group. So much so that we can’t help but be reminded of the chart dominating tidal wave that was the Fab Four.

Nick Jonas is a Seasoned Broadway Veteran

Nick Jonas has some musical and acting chops that extend beyond the scope of the tween pop sensation that is the Jonas Brothers. After starting on Broadway at the tender young age of seven,  Nick went on to star in several acclaimed Broadway plays, including A Christmas Carol, Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast, and Les Miserables (in 2003 as Gavroche and later as Marius for the 25th anniversary concert).

Justin Timberlake is a Mouseketeer

Yes ladies and gents, it is true. As if Justin being a singer/songwriter, actor, producer, restaurant owner, fashion designer and philanthropist were not enough  – he also has Mouseketeer listed on his resume. If he were not one of the most envied individuals in the world before – he definitely is now. Being a Mousketeer is almost as cool as being a Disney Imagineer. Take a look at Justin Timberlake, along with fellow peers Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling, in the 90s hit tv show The New Mickey Mouse Club.

One Direction didn’t start out as a group.

X-Factor, has introduced some natural born superstars and serious talent to the world (remember Susan Boyle?), and perhaps one of their biggest success stories has been boy band sensation One Direction. But did you know the group of five originally auditioned for the hit TV show as individuals? It was only after they were not progressing as individuals did producer Simon Cowell rework them into a group. A big kudos to Simon for seeing the hidden potential and possibility in One Direction- who are now often described as sparking the resurgence in the boy band concept and creating a new “British Invasion” in the United States.

Here are their first auditions:
