Janelle Monae is using her Hidden Figures star power to spotlight another unsung hero, Raye Montague. Raye is not only the first female Program Manager of ships in the history of the Navy, she will be quick to clarify, that she is the first PERSON to design a ship using a computer.

President Obama was able to parlay performances by Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monae into birthday entertainment for his daughter Malia who happens to be born on July 4th. Not too shabby for an 18th birthday considering the highlight of mine involved warm beer and a stolen street cone.

He also took time to remind everyone about those who sacrifice to protect our freedom.
