This week marks the 65th birthday of one of the most legendary frontmen in Rock and Roll. To properly celebrate Robert Plant’s birthday and in recognition of Led Zeppelin’s status as one of the greatest and most culturally important bands of all time, Led Zeppelin is Slacker’s Artist of the Week.
Without Led Zeppelin there would be no Heavy Metal, no Grunge, no Alternative rock as we know it. Rolling Stone called them “The heaviest band of all time,” and their entry in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame notes that they were “as influential in the 1970’s as the Beatles were in the prior decade.”
You’ll hear the best of Led Zeppelin as well as tracks from their individual projects; Page & Plant, Jimmy Page’s solo work, Robert Plant’s work with The Honeydrippers and Allison Krauss, John Paul Jones’ work with Diamanda Galas and Them Crooked Vultures, and the bands that preceded Led Zeppelin like The Yardbirds. You’ll also hear the many artists that were directly influenced by Led Zeppelin, like Soundgarden, Wolfmother, Jane’s Addiction, and The Black Crowes.
