Their upcoming fourth album “Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!” sees the band again venturing into new stylistic territory, with more synthesizers and darker lyrics.

Six years later, the hype has subsided, yet the lads are as fresh as ever. Their new single, “Do I Wanna Know?”, from their upcoming 5th studio album “AM” due out later this year, was first debuted as an opening number during their North American tour over the summer.

Pearl Jam’s “Mind Your Manners” is the Song Stuck in our Head

Their first album in four years, “Lightning Bolt,” is set for an October 24 release, and we’ve already got the first single, “Mind Your Manners.”

New Music First: Pixies & Beck Release First Tracks in Years

We’ve got some new music for you on Slacker and right now from some indie/alternative favorites. It seems some artists are dusting off the studio pipes and getting back down to business. Pixies-472x472

First, we have the Pixies. Just two weeks after announcing that Kim Deal had left the band, Pixies have released “Bagboy”, their first new song in 9 years.

They’ve also announced that Kim Shattuck of the Muffs will replace Deal for their upcoming world tour. The band says they will be playing “the most wide-ranging concert set-lists of Pixies music in the band’s career.” You can hear “Bagboy” now on Slacker’s New Indie First!

Beck-472x472Beck is also back at it with his first new music since 2008’s “Modern Guilt.”

His new track “Defriended” was released as a single; he plans to release two albums this year, one acoustic and one more in line with Beck’s electro/avant-pop style. They are back! New Music from Franz Ferdinand

Franz_Ferdinand_Launch__Photo_credit_Andy_Knowles_01-472x472Scotland’s Franz Ferdinand is back with their first new album since 2009.  “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action” has been in the works since 2010, and is finally slated for release. The LP, which is the follow-up to their 2009 effort ‘Tonight’, will be released on August 26 and was recorded in frontman Alex Kapranos’ Scottish studio and guitarist Nick McCarthy’s Studios in London.

The album is set to have  number of collaborations but no names have been mentioned. However it has been reported that one such collaboration is Roxanne Clifford of Veronica Falls as a guest vocalist.

Bastille’s Single “Pompeii” is the New Song Stuck in My Head

BASTILLE-472x472When British band Bastille released their latest single, “Pompeii,” adoring fans throughout the UK and Europe were clamoring for it, pushing it to number two on the UK charts.

Pompeii’ is an addicting combo of catchy infectious pop, complex arrangements with Dan Smith’s beautiful lyrics to appeal to an indie crowd, and even Gregorian style chanting.


While Bastille have been slowly bubbling under the surface and building a steady fan base – we think this may be the single that sends them over the edge. They are your new favorite band – you just don’t know it yet.

Song Stuck in Our Heads: The Mowgli’s “The Great Divide”

MOWGLI2-472x472It’s a new week and with it we have a new song stuck in our heads. Today on heavy rotation is “The Great Divide,” by The Mowgli’s.

Los Angeles-based eight-piece band, The Mowgli’s, recently released their full length, major label debut album, Waiting for the Dawn. The album, packed with the bands hippie vibe and feel good folksy pop sound, is already  receiving critical acclaim and new fans in droves.

Their song, “San Francisco” helped accelerate their popularity while the equally upbeat follow up single, “The Great Divide,” will keep the party going.
