Album Of The Week: ‘Random Access Memories’

png-3Congratulations to Daft Punk, whose “Random Access Memories” just won the Grammy for Album of the Year. The Grammy voters chose the most ambitious of the nominees, nearly 5 years in the making and utilizing a crowd of guest musicians from Nile Rogers to Panda Bear. And of course “Get Lucky” was at least tied with “Blurred Lines” for the song of the summer. It’s the Grammys’ Album of the Year and Slacker’s Album of the Week, listen as much as you want to “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk.

Album Of The Week: ‘Tribute’ from John Newman

AOTW NEWMANAs we kick off the new year, your Slacker curators are focused on finding the best new music for 2014. Enter John Newman—he’s a soulful singer from the UK, and his vocals have been in high demand; he sang on Rudimental’s “Feel The Love” and “Not Giving In,” both of which were international hits. We introduced you to his first single “Love Me Again” last year, and it’s gone on to be a number one record in the UK and beyond. This week he releases his debut album, called Tribute. It’s an apt title, as it mixes the sound of ‘90s house music and classic soul in a very modern context, and we think that he is poised to break out in the US in 2014. John Newman’s Tribute is Slacker’s Album Of The Week.

Album Of The Year: Eminem – “The Marshall Mathers LP 2”

EM AOTYThere was no greater comeback in 2013 than the return of Eminem. In November he released  “The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” a sequel to his classic album from 13 years ago. It debuted at #1, selling more records in 2013 than only Justin Timberlake. Love him or hate him, you can’t deny he’s at the top of his game; Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers LP 2” is Slacker’s Album of the Year.

Album Of The Week: “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

charliebrownFirst and foremost — Happy Holiday’s — from our Slacker family to yours. This week we’ve decided to take a cue from Charlie Brown, and focus on what Christmas is all about. We are talking, of course, about the 1965 soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas. Vince Guaraldi’s masterpiece features compositions that will both make you nostalgic for Christmas’ past and ensure that you never lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas. It’s a small gift from Slacker to you—A Charlie Brown Christmas is the Album Of The Week.

Album Of The Week: Kelly Clarkson “Wrapped In Red”

png-6Kelly Clarkson has sold 20 million albums and won three Grammys since winning the first season of “American Idol” eleven years ago. Her sixth album “Wrapped In Red” came out in November, it’s her first foray into Christmas music, featuring both covers of holiday classics and originals. Listen as much as you want to “Wrapped in Red,” Slacker’s Album of the Week.
